Whole teeth hurt; what’s going on?

The whole teeth hurt; you feel it everywhere. This prevents you from eating, talking, and laughing and also keeps you awake. Sometimes it is a problem that is in one place, but the pain radiates to the entire teeth. Let’s see what is causing this.

An abscess

A painful abscess can develop in case of a major inflammation under the gums. This is a cavity that fills with pus. The accumulation of dental plaque and tartar often causes an abscess. With an abscess, you suffer from pain on one side of the teeth, but it can also radiate to the entire teeth. You also have swollen and red gums and bad breath. Sometimes there is also a fever. An abscess does not heal on its own. For mouth abscess treatment, you go to the dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can take painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Teeth grinding at night.

You may not realize it, but many people grind their teeth during sleep. During the day, you notice this because you have a toothache; often, you feel this everywhere. The jaw also feels stiff, and you suffer from a headache. Prolonged teeth grinding can lead to tooth damage.

Exposed tooth necks

Do the whole teeth hurt when you eat something hot or cold? There is a good chance that the necks of the teeth are exposed. This makes the nerves extra sensitive, and you can feel it. You notice it not only when you eat something hot or cold but also with sweet and sour foods.

With special toothpaste, you can protect the exposed necks of the teeth. In addition, we can apply a special protective device so that you have fewer pain complaints.

The coming through (or not) of wisdom teeth

A single wisdom tooth can make your entire teeth ache simply because the pain radiates. When wisdom teeth come through, it can cause painful gums. But when wisdom teeth only come in half, this sometimes leads to inflammation. This is also painful; often, the gums look red and swollen in this place. The throbbing pain is felt daily.

A half-erupted wisdom tooth must be removed. Of course, we first check whether the wisdom tooth does not come through further because this is still possible.

A root tip infection

If a hole in a tooth or molar is not treated in time, a root tip infection can occur. The bacteria are very deep in the root of the tooth or tooth. This causes a throbbing and radiating pain that you can’t miss. The pain increases with heat and cold.

A root tip infection does not go away on its own, either. If you do nothing about this, the tooth can eventually be lost. Fortunately, we can treat a root tip infection well. We do this under local anesthesia.

Dead dental nerve

Sometimes you suffer from a root tip infection, but the pain disappears after a while. The dental nerve has then died and, therefore, no longer sends a pain signal. In many cases, the pain will return after a few weeks. The pain is then deeper in the jaw and does not radiate. This allows you to identify the painful tooth or molar properly.

Do whole teeth hurt? Get in touch with your dentist

When the whole teeth hurt, it is not the intention that you keep walking around with this for days to maybe weeks. The quality of the tooth or molar will continue to deteriorate. But that’s not all; other teeth can also become infected. Before you know it, you will lose one or more teeth. Therefore, if you are in pain, contact your Virginia family dentist.
