Five tips for tidying up your desk

It is often said that disorder and creativity go hand in hand, but if you take a closer look at the situation, it is rather difficult to find motivation and focus in a poorly organized room. Coming to work and discovering a messy desk isn’t a great way to start a productive day. An orderly person will also convey a more positive image of their ability to work and organize themselves.

As a cleaning professional, it is easier for us to do a full cleaning when an office is tidy. We have some tips for you to improve your workspace and tidy your desk with this in mind.

1- SORT AND STORE DAY BY DAY

Sheets, notebooks, notepads… all these objects pile up little by little on your desk. In the end, you will no longer have room to work. We, therefore, advise you to sort it out every day. Before leaving, allow 5 minutes to do some sorting and storage on your desk:

  • As soon as you no longer need certain documents, throw them away, or file them properly. This will save you space and space to work comfortably.
  • Put away the items and documents you are not going to use. Put all your pencils, pens, highlighters back into a jar or box.
  • Leave only the documents you are going to use on your desk.
  • Post a reminder near your desk if you’re worried about forgetting something or to remember documents to use for later.

2- CLASSIFY AND ORGANIZE YOUR DOCUMENTS AND THINGS

Do you have a lot of files and documents on your desk? Remember to sort them carefully every day. This will prevent loss of documents or even discarded documents by mistake. You will also save time if you need a specific document later.

If you have a wide variety of documents and items, buy boxes and jars to sort your things. Put names on each box to distinguish each category of object or document.

This will make locating your belongings and files much more effective when you need them or if your boss asks you to. By regularly tidying your desk this way, you will also save time in your tidying process.

3- AVOID TOTE DRAWERS

Sometimes drawers seem like the perfect solution to all your storage problems. Even if you have all kinds of objects, files, and documents on your desk, you must at all costs avoid putting everything in one drawer without bothering to sort. You risk turning your drawers into real baskets.

  • Avoid mixing everything
  • Do not put too much food in your drawers and reserve a special place for it.
  • Place boxes or compartments to better organize your things
  • Use filing cabinets or storage cabinets

Everything on and in your office should be useful. Placing everything in your drawers will only postpone the problem until a little later without actually solving it. Take advantage of a hollow moment to tidy up once and for all and then keep a daily tidying rhythm to maintain order in your office. You will gain in motivation and organization.

4- ADD USEFUL BUT PERSONALIZED OBJECTS

While everything you put on your desk should serve you, your space shouldn’t become an impersonal place, either. So add a touch of personalization and originality to your office. Personalize your boxes, sticky notes, etc. Add some color to it, show that this desk is indeed yours.

5- THINK ABOUT THE PLANET BY LIMITING YOUR WASTE

Maintaining your office is already a good exercise in preserving the environment. By sorting, classifying, and disposing of documents, you will also see the volume of paper consumed more easily. Keeping things organized will prevent food from molding in your office, and you will use less supplies if you know where they are. Rather than using 10 bics in parallel, you will have 2 or 3.

By tidying up your desk regularly, you will make the job of your cleaning company easier. You will find a perfectly clean office, tidy and well organized to start your day.
